I have been a little on the slow side with my reading, but I’m happy to say I’m FINALLY bringing you guys a new book review… and it’s a fantastic one! Let’s discuss The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
So this little gem popped up in my goodreads feed a week or two back, and after reading the synopsis, I knew it was a story I needed in my possession immediately. I had gone on a Barnes & Noble run with a friend of mine to load up on books, and this was my main purchase and reason for going in the first place. Since I had left the store with seven or eight novels, I had no idea what to start first, so I posed a picture of my newest TBRs to see what suggestions my fellow readers had for me. Most of you overwhelmingly picked The Night Circus, and I just had to take your advice, and I’m thrilled that I did just that. Thank you to all of you who gave me your take on what to read first because I just couldn’t decide.
Trying to write a proper review for this story is proving impossible because this was such a stunning story. Days after I finished and I’m still speechless as to what to write. Bear with me, because I’m just going to try my best and hope I can convince a few of you to read this regardless of the fact I feel like a bumbling idiot trying to gush about this book. It blew me away that much.
The Night Circus is full of mystery, illusion, and enchantment. I found myself stopping every few pages so that I didn’t devour this book too quickly because I knew once it was over, I’d be so angry with myself for rushing such lovely words.
I was spellbound by the performers of the circus, their back stories, and how they all seemed to intertwine with one another in order to create this new world so far removed from reality.
As chapters progressed, layers were peeled back and more was revealed so that people and places were never quite what they seemed. The idea of the ultimate challenge with star-crossed lovers as the focus of the duel made it heart-wrenching. Would Marco and Celia stick with what they’ve always known and what they’ve been trained to do, or would they choose true love over destiny?
What I loved most was not knowing where dreams began and reality ended. It all seems to be separated by such a thin veil that you wind up questioning everything you see. There’s so much more I want to say but I just can’t convey it all correctly. For that, I apologize. Five stars is not enough to capture this gorgeous and magical tale. Do yourselves a favor, and just go buy this book and experience it for yourselves.
