Trusting Jay

Happy Tuesday, bibliophiles! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend filled with books to read! I wish I could have been one of those people, but it was a busy weekend on my end. I didn’t devour quite as many novels as I had hoped. Luckily, I am still bringing you my latest book review! Today, I’m talking about Trusting Jay by up-and-coming author, Simone Sowood!

This lady was generous enough to reach out and offer me an ARC copy and I’m very thankful she wanted to include me in her group of early readers. For her debut novel, this was an entertaining read! I really enjoyed the drama and the conflict Abbie and Jay created together, not to mention the steam factor! I gave this a solid 3.5 stars.

Abbie White is an accountant who is trying to get back on her feet after a six year relationship went south fast. She has bills stacking up while she also tries to make a name for herself in the work force. Jay Mickle is simply a man of mystery who bumps into her one morning in a coffee shop. There’s only one problem; she finds all men to be untrustworthy and barely gives him the time of day. Too bad he’s too determined to let her slip through his fingers.

Jay and Abbie skate around each other a bit, but eventually cozy up to one another, which winds up creating problems. Bits of their journey are rocky. I definitely wanted to scream at them several times during their journey.

Abbie takes everything Jay tells her at face value, which is a big no-no in my book. She knows he has the tendency to be fishy and not tell the whole truth, but when she confronts him and he gives a ridiculous answer, she doesn’t press the matter (and he threw up many red flags). Jay also likes to tell her that they’ll always talk and he’ll explain everything so she doesn’t have to question his motives for being with her, only he never does. They always get caught up in the heat of the moment and wind up tumbling into bed. Not that that’s a bad thing, but if they want their relationship to make it for the long-haul, they need to resist each other enough to communicate better.

I feel like the characters and the author are all finding their way together, and they all have massive potential. This book ended on cliffhanger, and I was not expecting it in the least! I’m dying for answers, so I’m anxious to see where book two will take me next!

My Final Rating: three out of five stars
