Hey hey, bookworms! Happy Saturday and I hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing weekend reading some of your favorite or new books. I have yet to do that myself as I also have yet to bring you guys another book review, but I promise, it’s coming. Hopefully, it’ll happen tomorrow because they’re stacking up on my end.
Anyway, I figured I’d give a little update and at least let you know what the book club selection is going to be for August (if you’re still following along).. and then I swear, reviews will ensue. So here goes.
If you’ve been following this little blog, you know I’ve spent.. ages.. job hunting and left my last job in May. Well, I figured with my free time, I’d have time to write and hang out and catch up on books, but I did the exact opposite. I got too worried about my savings, so 24/7 job hunting and hustling to do some freelance work took precedence. Then, I had an interview for a content management position at a company right near me, so I got all nervous and geared up to prep for that, then I was too nervous and in limbo while I waited to hear from them.. finally got the job, and spent the week & a half I had to do a few summery things I hadn’t done yet before I began. My first day was this past Tuesday, and since then, I’ve been overwhelmed with information and trying to adjust to the work day and training and such. Writing all day is pretty cool, but for now, as I get into a flow of things, the last thing I want to do when I come home is stare at another computer and write more. I know that will change, I just need to get into a groove and adjust properly… so I’ll say it now. Ready?
THE BLOG ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE!
There, now that it’s out of my system. I’m thrilled to keep going with this space. It’s been quite the journey and I look forward to continuing without real-life worry for a minute.
Also, my dad, who I love and adore, has been in and out of the hospital twice in the past two weeks for some kidney issues, so taking care of him and keeping his mind at ease and helping to take care of him has been uppermost in my mind. Do me a favor and just keep fingers crossed and send good vibes if you can! We’d appreciate it!
That’s all for updates right now! I’ve slacked on book world majorly but I promise, I will get back to it. Stay tuned for a review because it’s coming.. multiple reviews are on the way!
Lastly, let’s talk book club. I’ll keep this portion short. If you haven’t joined the facebook group already, please do. We’d love to chat books with you! Admittedly, I’m slacking on my posts there as well, but even if you’re just following our list and not discussing or posting, you’re still welcome to read!
Our August selection is going to be Providence by Caroline Kepnes! I adored her duet of You and Hidden Bodies that came out a few years ago and I figured while I wait for You to hit the small screen on Lifetime come fall, I’d give her newest novel, Providence, a go. I’ve heard it’s very different so I’d love to check it out with a group and I hope you’ll read it with me.
Now that I’ve blabbed PLENTY, I’ll leave you with a synopsis of our August club pick and I can’t wait to check it out! Thanks for hanging in there, guys. Until next time.. happy reading!
A propulsive new thriller about the obsessive nature of love when an intensifying relationship between best friends is disrupted by a kidnapping.
Growing up as best friends in small-town New Hampshire, Jon and Chloe are the only ones who truly understand each other, though they can never find the words to tell one another the depth of their feelings. When Jon is finally ready to confess his feelings, he’s suddenly kidnapped by his substitute teacher who is obsessed with H.P. Lovecraft and has a plot to save humanity.
Mourning the disappearance of Jon and facing the reality he may never return, Chloe tries to navigate the rites of entering young adulthood and “fit in” with the popular crowd, but thoughts of Jon are never far away.
When Jon finally escapes, he discovers he now has an uncontrollable power that endangers anyone he has intense feelings for. He runs away to protect Chloe and find the answers to his new identity–but he’s soon being tracked by a detective who is fascinated by a series of vigilante killings that appear connected.
Whisking us on a journey through New England and crashing these characters’ lives together in the most unexpected ways, Kepnes explores the complex relationship between love and identity, unrequited passion and obsession, self-preservation and self-destruction, and how the lines are often blurred between the two.
