Happy almost-Tuesday, bibliophiles. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m glad to see Monday go since it was a bit of a nightmare. I’m feeling a bit burned out lately, which I know I discussed in my last post, and I couldn’t bring myself to start book two in the Westmoreland series I’ve been reading, so I decided to take a little break and tackle something new and bring you guys a (hopefully) coherent review.

I received an ARC  of Unraveled from the lovely Leanne R. Clute, and I’m so sad I got to it so late (it was published a few weeks back)! Regardless, I loved every moment of this book! It was quite the wild ride! You can try to categorize a story like this with ten different genres, but I adore how it can’t really be placed into one slot and fit there comfortably from beginning to end. There’s so much going on that you have to keep turning the pages at a rapid fire pace to know what will happen next.

Olivia Harnett is extremely relatable to me, which is why I admired her right from the get-go. She plays it safe, works hard, and does right by everyone she knows, but she doesn’t always take risks or put herself first, which could set her up for disaster if she encounters the wrong crowd. Luckily, she’s a smart cookie. She runs Leonardo’s, one of the most popular restaurants in town. She has a pretty solid group of friends, and zero complications of a love life. When she’s not running her establishment, she’s remembering the parents she recently lost and spends her free time cataloguing their antiques before settling their estate. It’s when Aiden Padilla-Ruiz struts into her bar looking for a job (and a date) that her world really makes a complete one-eighty into chaos.

Aiden and Olivia’s story is an interesting one to say the least. I’m a sucker for that instant attraction/chemistry in books, so their banter caught me right from the beginning. However, it was more than an almost primal, animal lust with these two. I was obsessed with finding out what Aiden was hiding, and part of me almost didn’t want to trust him. Olivia was already digging into her own past before nosing around in his too which would get her into deep trouble. When they were good together, their bond sizzled and jumped off the pages, but I couldn’t help but hold my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop… and drop it does.

I’m obsessed with the fact that this isn’t a typical romance. Seriously, it’s not. I love the pirate folklore that goes with the town history, and the mystery it leaves the town coated in. There’s something enchanting, yet dangerous surrounding Esperanza Falls, and I just have this inkling that Olivia is not far from the heart of it all.

Needless to say, I’m chomping at the bit to find out what happens next! Be warned that book one does end in quite a cliffhanger, but there are a few more installments of this series coming out in the near future, so, keep your eyes peeled!
