Hello there, bibliophiles! It’s a rainy Sunday, and I find it’s matching my mood. I’m off to the movies in a few hours to see Me Before You and I’m simply not prepared. I did my best to do so, but I’m a short time away from heading out and I just don’t feel wonderful. I figured I’d do the best I could at distracting myself for the time being and bring a book haul post to my fellow readers.
I had an eventful day with some of my girlfriends yesterday, and a chunk of our afternoon was spent in the best way possible, at one of our local Barnes & Noble. I told myself I wouldn’t buy more than one or two items since I had a few extra bills this month, and needless to say, that didn’t happen. The funny thing is, once we got into the store, we all went our separate ways for a bit, and once I was on my own, I was just waiting for a book to speak to me. I was having a tough time picking something I wanted, even when I had help from my goodreads TBR pile. However, once I finally did come across something I wanted, I couldn’t seem to stop. I may need an intervention, but until one comes, here’s what I bought.
Connected and Torn by Kim Karr
I’ve already read these books on my iBooks app, but they both just called out to me, and to this day, years after I enjoyed this couple, rock star, River Wilde still remains among some of my top book boyfriends! There’s more installments to the Connections series, but I haven’t quite gotten past these two just yet. I will one day!
Connected
What if a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ could happen twice?
Suffering from a past full of tragedy, Dahlia London’s soul has been left completely shattered. Happily ever after is a far cry from reality in her world. But, when she is reconnected with her past, the bonds that form are irrefutable.
When River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, comes back into Dahlia’s life, the intensity that fires their relationship combined with underlying feelings that have never died lead her to believe she has met her soulmate.
Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia’s grief begins to lift–but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.
But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?
Torn
Rock star River Wilde brought Dahlia London back from the brink of hopelessness with his unwavering love and devotion. But their entangled history is about to test the strength of their relationship
Dahlia was certain she had found true love and met her ‘Once in a Lifetime’ when she reconnected with River. But Dahlia’s world comes crashing down when someone from her past resurfaces, and all of River’s carefully hidden secrets are exposed.
River wants to show Dahlia that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass—it’s about dancing in the rain. But how many times can one broken heart be mended? Will River and Dahlia be able to stay together or will they be torn apart?
Loyalty In Death and Conspiracy In Death by J.D. Robb
These two are books 8 and 9 in the In Death series. I had books 1-7 on my shelves already, thanks to Paperback Swap which is a really fun website, and a way to trade books for free (seriously)! I first heard about these thanks to The Crossfire series by Sylvia Day. There’s a part of the story when the main character, Eva, is lying on a beach and enjoying these books. Curious, I looked them up, and I was intrigued, so I began collecting. Now that I’ve started the series, it looks like I’ll need to have every installment on my shelves. I have yet to start reading these, but once I do, I’ll be investing quite some time since there’s 44 novels and 10 novellas.
In Death
The In Death Series is an ongoing fiction series, written by author Nora Roberts under the penname, J.D. Robb. The book is set in mid-21st-century New York City, and it centers around Detective Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke. The series is ongoing and thus far, Nora Roberts has not clued us in as to when she will end the series, except for the fact that the books will end with Eve Dallas’s pregnancy–and thus far she doesn’t seem close to getting pregnant. So far, there are 44 books in the series.
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
This book is part of the Red Queen series, book two to be exact. I bought this awhile ago in paperback, but it differed so drastically from my hardcover copy of book one, The Red Queen, that I just had to purchase it again so they looked the same on my shelves. This is another series I haven’t began yet, but I am excited to start. The covers are gorgeous and the plot seems really interesting.
Glass Sword
If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.
Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.
The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.
Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.
But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.
Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?
The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known—and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.
Sin & Suffer by Pepper Winters
This is book two in the Pure Corruption series. I messed up here because I didn’t realize I bought book two without owning book one, so after I got home and looked it up on goodreads, I went over to Amazon to have book one sent to me. Sometimes I pull a dumb dumb move. I adore Pepper Winters. Her Indebted series tore me to pieces and I can’t suggest those books enough. I have absolute faith that she’ll deliver once again with Pure Corruption!
Sin & Suffer
“Some say the past is in the past. That vengeance will hurt both innocent and guilty. I never believed those lies. Once my lust for revenge is sated, I’ll say goodbye to hatred. I’ll find a new beginning.”
SIN & SUFFER
She came from a past Arthur “Kill” Killian never forgot. She made him sin and made him suffer. She tugged him from the shadows and showed him he wasn’t as dead as he thought. And with her resurrection came betrayal, deceit, and war.
But then they took her. Stole her. Imprisoned her.
Now Kill’s carefully laid plans for vengeance are complete. He craves action, retribution-the blood of his enemies. War has begun. War is all they’ll know until they’ve paid their penance. He will get her back-and rewrite their destiny . . .
The Affair by Beth Kery
This is one of those books that just spoke to me from the shelves. I was immediately drawn to the cover, and after looking it up on goodreads to see that it had a solid rating, I decided to just jump in and grab a copy.
The Affair
NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED
THE COMPLETE NOVEL
Available for the first time as a complete novel—the serial from the New York Times bestselling author that explores the dynamics of power and sex between two people who set the rules of desire…only to shatter them.
When unconventional hospice nurse Emma Shore secured a new position at the Breakers, the sprawling mansion of enigmatic and dangerously handsome racecar billionaire Michael Montand, she had no idea how soon she’d be drawn into his darker sexual games—or that it would be her own fantasies that would hold her captive.
Michael knew he shouldn’t have engaged such an innocent woman to share in his desires. But strong sexual appetites and selfishness run in his blood.
From Michael’s luxurious lakeside home to the sun-drenched, sensual shores of the French Riviera, Emma submits again and again to his intoxicating power. But she knows there is only one way to protect her heart.
The affair will continue, but under her conditions: Only she can end it, and when it’s over, they will part and never speak again of the things they dared to do behind locked doors.
Well, that’s all for now. My bank account hates me a little bit, but, money is money and I’ll never have any real regret when it comes to buying books. I’d love to hear from you guys regarding these hauls. Are there any books on this list (or prior lists I’ve posted) that you’ve read or would love to read? Let me know in the comments below!
