Good afternoon and happy Tuesday, bibliophiles! Things have been a bit on the hectic side for me, especially yesterday at the office. However, today has been crickets, so I was finally able to binge on my latest read and bring a review right to you! I’m always so torn when I review these stories, both for my fellow readers and also, for myself. Part of me feels like I should sit on my emotions for a bit and compile a well thought out reaction, but I also feel I owe you guys genuine and immediate emotion, so, I’m hoping you not only take away a new read for your TBR, but also, have a little bit of prep on what to expect when you experience it for yourself. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I’m conveying proper and coherent thoughts for you!
Anyway, today’s read is a new ARC I received from the darling Kandi Steiner. I read a synopsis of the story, entitled Weightless (due to release June 16th, 2016) and jumped at the chance to give it an early read. It sounded so interesting and did just what it was supposed to do… reeled me in and had me wanting more instantly! As soon as it popped up on my Kindle, I dove right in and didn’t look back!
This book just took my heart and tore it right out. It was a ride I definitely wasn’t expecting!
Natalie was extremely relatable in the sense that she’s just like most girls. I’m 31 and found myself identifying with every confidence issue she had about herself. She’s just lucky she had someone like Rhodes to help her see the best, inside and out.
She’s a recent high school graduate who doesn’t quite know where she fits in or what she wants to do now that she’s entered the “next phase”. Rhodes… he’s just bad news. That’s his reputation plain and simple. When she decides to whip herself into shape after a bad breakup, Rhodes becomes her trainer, and he’s there to push her, in every sense of the word.
These two are an unlikely pair, but a really good one. Her stepfather allows her to have a life of privilege while Rhodes has to do whatever he can to live and survive. Those barriers don’t matter to them when it comes to a connection stronger than material possessions. He forces her to have confidence while she pushes him to break down his façade and allow himself to be loved. Don’t get me wrong, they have their differences just like every other couple, and the fact that they’ve had exact opposite upbringings does come up as a point of conflict, but they try to do everything in their power to squash status and make their interaction solely about each other.
There’s a lot of back-and-forth with these two, and I never knew if they’d be okay from day-to-day, but they allowed me to have faith in them. They just had to realize it for themselves and fight for one another. They just had to remember that when they were good, they were amazing.
Needless to say, I adored this book. What more can you ask for than a compelling storyline that just sucks you in, and characters that really affect each other to the point they become completely different people than the ones you met in the first few pages? I could read ten more books on these two and not get sick of them! I was obsessed with every heart-wrenching minute!
