Meet Cute (and Minor Updates)

Hello there, bookworms – It’s been another 9 million years since I’ve been on here to post or bring you a book review. Life has felt so chaotic lately and I really am trying to get myself back on a regular schedule.

Work has kept me busy, I’ve been shopping and decorating for Halloween, I’ve had a couple of weddings to go to, my parent’s health sagas continue, I got my vaccine booster and flu shot which knocked me down for a couple of days, and I’ve had some other health issues that I’m in the process of getting checked out. All that being said, I haven’t had a ton of time to update the blog, do much reading, edit my book, or get back into any one of the three writing projects I had going.

All that being said, I’m making a conscious effort to change my patterns and habits I’ve fallen into as I type this message. I bought some crystals for focus, motivation, and creativity, I’ve been trying to meditate and put some positive intentions out into the world, and I am anxiously awaiting a new type of journal that is supposed to help me prioritize tasks and such. I’m really bad at journaling and writing projects down in a planner so, fingers crossed I stick with it (if not for nothing else, then because it wasn’t cheap).

I digress. Now that I’ve rambled with all of my life doings, I suppose I should dive into a new book review! Well, new to you but not to me since I read this book over the summer. After this, I hope to get to a mini pile of classic horror and thriller novels I read last year because – tis the spooky season! Until then, let’s talk about Meet Cute by Helena Hunting!

Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran quite literally into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…

Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.

The more time Kailyn spends with Dax and his sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realizes the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. But will they be able to forgive the mistakes of the past, or will one betrayal lead to another?

With how insane life has been the past few months, it’s honestly been hard to get into reading and find something I really love and want to just inhale. Overall reading has been going pretty slow though I’m still enjoying the books I’m choosing. Thankfully, when it came to Meet Cute, it was the exact opposite from anything else I’ve been reading lately. This is the first book of hers I read and I feel like it helped to get me out of my reading rut.

Meet Cute had a sweet blend of everything I didn’t know I was looking for in a story. I adored the love/hate relationship between Dax and Kailyn, got my heart broken over Dax’s tragic situation when he’s left to raise his young sister, and even the bits of humor and steam thrown in for good measure.

This book had all the warm and fuzzy things that I used to love about reading romance. Admittedly, over time, I’ve drifted to all sorts of other genres and I haven’t binged romance novels the way I used to. I miss it tremendously and needless to say, I’m glad Meet Cute brought me back from the brink to dive back into my romance pile once more. This book has substance and a real story decorating its pages, but it’s still a fast read that you can’t put down. If you’re looking to savor it, please pace yourself so you can fully immerse yourself in the world of Dax and Kailyn – and all the drama they bring to the table!

Until next time, stay safe and happy reading! xx
