Hello there, bookworms! Happy hump day!
It’s been a minute (as usual) because life has been crazy. Well, to say crazy frankly sounds like an understatement these days. Work is busy, life is hectic – by pandemic standards, and my family’s on-going health hurdles continue with more unexpected things popping up to scare us out of our wits end. I won’t go into detail just yet as my mental health has slammed into a wall, but we keep trudging on, right? I’m trying to preserve energy where I can and powering down when needed so that I can just re-group. I’m also trying to get back into a fairly rigorous writing schedule to distract myself and use as a bit of a therapeutic outlet when needed, so I’m sure I’ll have more words coming soon for those who are interested.
I digress. I promise, this blog space is not meant to be an outlet for constant apologies or excuses, but I tend to do that kind of thing regardless when lagging on posts. Still, I came here to bring you a book review, and dang it, that’s what I’m gonna do so let’s get to it. Tonight, let’s talk about Wait With Me by Amy Daws!

Doing a test-drive of her new book idea sounds like a much better option.
This is the first book I’ve read by Daws. I heard buzz about this book awhile ago, so I downloaded a copy and stuck it among my ever-growing TBR on my Kindle, but never got around to reading it. Now that it’s been optioned by Passionflix to head to the screen, it moved a little higher up the list. It’s been a bit since I jumped head first into a romance novel because I honestly haven’t been in the headspace, but I thought I’d give this one a go.
I had a whole mix of emotions while on this journey. Novelist Kate made me want to kick my butt into gear with getting on a writing schedule, mechanic Miles had me blushing for all the right reasons, and the quirky plot was fast-paced, fun, and sucked me right into another world. All the goals of an ideal book/romance novel, right?
As I mentioned earlier, I haven’t been in the best/right frame of mind in recent months – pandemic and all, so some of the adult-themed dialogue in this story threw me off – which is certainly a new feeling for me. I’ve been reading romance novels for years, but since I’ve slowed down on reading in general and the romance/erotica genre in recent months, some of those scenes just didn’t stick the landing with me when they would usually have me eager for more. It makes me sad to think (or to type), but while I liked the story, I felt disconnected from my usual fan-girl, fuzzy feeling I get when being fully absorbed by a phenomenal book boyfriend (and I promise you, Miles has all the markings of a perfect one you’ll adore).
I both admired and envied Kate’s drive to get her novel done. I wish I had her focus to get that word count in every day – maybe it’ll happen in the near future!
While I couldn’t swoon over the chemistry and steam in this book the way I normally would, I still found myself turning pages eagerly as the tension/flirtation built between Kate and Miles. The tension and their antics day-in and day-out at the tire shop had me smiling and cheering for them to get together already. I found them to be really cute and fun when they were around one another. When they finally cave to temptation, I promise, it’s worth the hype.
My issues/lack of connection with parts of this story are purely my own fault. I’m waiting for the cloud to lift so that I can jump head first back into these stories so that I can absorb and obsess over them they way they deserve to be cherished. Daws created a wonderful cast of rowdy, sometimes vulgar and crass characters and at some point I want to utterly adore them the way I know I would have in the past. I have high hopes for whatever Passionflix delivers to us on screen and I can’t wait to see it brought to life.

I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things and feel a hint of normalcy so that I can review more books without feeling like I’m being an absolute bummer about it.
