Muted

Hey there bookworms. It’s Tuesday at 1 a.m. in my neck of the woods, and I’m jumping on here to do a post I’ve never done before in the history of this blog. In all the years I’ve had this space, I never thought we’d reach such a dismal time in our world where a post such as this would be necessary. There’s a pandemic that just keeps spreading with COVID – 19, and now, with a fatal arrest of George Floyd, I feel that the next steps are essential.

I’m stepping away from all of my social and blog platforms and following the lead of others to MUTE for the next several days. While books and escapism normally bring solace and comfort, right now is not really the time. None of our heads are in the proper space to post positive things, or pretend to ignore very real problems that exist in the world. It’s too late to sweep things under the rug until the next time someone loses their life unnecessarily.

Frankly, enough is enough.

This should’ve ended ages ago. As an American citizen, it hurts my heart that racism, hatred, xenophobia, and ignorance all still run rampant in this country. Our love of guns, anger, violence and brutality, only adds fuel to the fire, and now a raging inferno blazes in the streets.

It’s heartbreaking.

It’s downright terrifying.

This happens so often in our nation that it’s almost hard to keep up with all the headlines. To say nothing, and to do nothing yet again when there is so much death and destruction would be to take the side of the oppressors, and that’s not who I am.

I understand that I will never understand. My plight in this world is not the plight of others, and facets of our hardships have to do with race, religion, gender, sexual preferences, and more. The world is in a bad state. There is no denying that, unfortunately. We all need to unite to stand up for injustices and fight the complexity of evil, racism, and hate.

In 2020, it’s unbelievable to me to say that some of us are STILL viewed as far inferior, and that needs to stop.

It’s absolutely vile.

In a time of civil unrest, we HAVE to do better. We should’ve done better long ago.

I’ve always supported taking a knee in solidarity to bring awareness to utter brutality, and now I’m telling you, I’m taking a knee with you more than ever. It’s time for me to reflect, to have uncomfortable conversations, and to learn.

Teach me what I do not know.

Know that I support you.

Be brave.

Be fearless.

I’m listening.

I’m sending you endless love.

Stay well. Stay safe.

We’re in this together.
