Verity

Hey there bookworms and Happy Wednesday! I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled this week is already coming to a close. I have so many books to review, new ones to read, and writing projects to work on that adulting is beginning to get in the way. That being said, I hope your week is going well so far and you have your stories to keep you company in your free time. The weekend is almost here!

Since Friday is almost here, I thought I’d pop in for a book review! I just finished this one the other day after all but devouring it so I had to come here and tell you all about it. Let’s talk about Verity by the infamous Colleen Hoover.

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Colleen continues to blow me away. She is one of the few authors whose books I can purchase no questions asked and know that I’ll still enjoy every single page of my journey.

I’ve been slightly “meh” and in a bit of a reading funk lately, so I’m elated that I got to kick off 2019 with two back-to-back 5 star reads. Verity was everything I was looking for in a plot, characters, and just that overall feeling of, “I can’t put this book down”. With the way my schedule panned out, I think it took me two sittings to finish this book, but the whole time I remained torn because I needed to finish the book, but I didn’t want to finish the book and have it all be over.

Lowen was relatable to me. She was a bit of a loner, and a writer, but sort of on everyone’s peripheral rather than publishing that one profound work.. maybe the next great novel that gave her the credit she deserved. In time, life got in her way, she seemed to veer off course a bit, and just wound up lackadaisical about her future.

Verity was.. well… Verity was. I guess brilliant is a good word. Or insane? Bit of both if I must be honest. Did she or didn’t she? Is she or isn’t she? Either way, the approach Colleen took with her story and had it all twisting and turning in on itself had me wishing I wrote a book as fantastic as this one.

This book is fast, spine-chilling, easy to read, and a thrilling ride that teeters between, “oh my gosh.. sexy” to “oh my gosh.. what the hell is happening?” Even as I turned the pages and could sense what was coming down the pike for all the main players, I still found myself on the edge of my seat wondering how it would come to an end. Hoover, as usual, did NOT disappoint!

Verity it the kind of engrossing story that makes you wonder about non-readers out there. If anyone browsing this page thinks reading is boring, I implore you, pick up a copy of this book if you haven’t already!
