July Haul

Hey there bookworms and happy Sunday Funday! I’ve had some things going on the last few days, so I thought I’d drop in and give you guys an update and share my latest book haul. It’s been awhile since I’ve done that so I’m glad I can finally give an update as to my reading mood and get some insight from you guys about what books I should be reading right now!

Let’s start with the best news.. I GOT A JOB! If you’ve been following me or stopping in to visit this blog periodically, you know how long I’ve been agonizing about hunting for the perfect job and it’s finally happened. I thought walking away from my old job almost two months ago would have brought some relief to my everyday life, and while it did, I also stressed about burning through my savings to pay bills and wound up disregarding my writing, reading, and even this space a little bit in order to do some freelance work, revise my resume, meet with my old university to discuss the process, and apply, apply, apply to every job I could that was remotely in my field/what I went to school for… and the other day, I got that call. I still can’t wrap my brain around it because I’ve been job hunting so long that I almost can’t believe that I can finally breathe a sigh of relief and officially move on to the next chapter of my life! Plus, I’ll be close to home so I’m keeping fingers crossed that I won’t be too drained come end-of-day that I’ll still be able to effectively write and pay attention to my interests outside of work life. I’m definitely hopeful!

To celebrate, I took myself out on a little shopping excursion. I have to say that it was lovely to spend a little money and get a treat when I’ve spent so long just paying bills. With an idea in mind to upgrade my phone and use my neglected coupons at my local Barnes & Noble, it was a lovely afternoon. It felt like forever since I last bought books so here’s what I came home with yesterday!

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahreh Mafi

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

War Storm (Red Queen #4) by Victoria Aveyard

Victory comes at a price.

Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all… starting with the crown on Maven’s head.

But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolishing everything—and everyone—in his path.

War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power… for all will be tested, but not all will survive.

New Camelot Trilogy by Sierra Simone

American Queen (#1)

It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire.

My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States.

This is the story of an American Queen.

American Prince (#2)

I’ve been many things.

I’ve been a son and a stepbrother. An Army captain and a Vice President.

But only with Him am I a prince. His little prince.

Only with Maxen and Greer does my world make sense, only between them can I find peace from the demons that haunt me. But men like me aren’t made to be happy. We don’t deserve it. And I should have known a love as sharp as ours could cut both ways.

My name is Embry Moore and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States…for now.

This is the story of an American Prince.

American King (#3)

They say that every tragic hero has a fatal flaw, a secret sin, a tiny stitch sewn into his future since birth. And here I am. My sins are no longer secret. My flaws have never been more fatal. And I’ve never been closer to tragedy than I am now.

I am a man who loves, a man whose love demands much in return. I am a king, a king who was foolish enough to build a kingdom on the bones of the past. I am a husband and a lover and a soldier and a father and a president.
And I will survive this.

Long live the king.

Lastly, I got myself one of my favorite iced coffees from Starbucks. It was a busy day but despite everything listed I got, I actually didn’t break the bank simply because I was due for a phone upgrade, and I had at least four coupons for the bookstore, so it was nice to shop a little but know I didn’t go too crazy. I’ve had all of these books on my TBR for awhile so it was refreshing to actually get to add them to my collection. Still, it’s been awhile since I’ve let myself shop for books, so if there are others I must-have on my shelves, let me know and I’ll add them to my list for next time!

Stay tuned, because now that I can decompress from all the job hunting, I can finally focus on writing my story again (on the right side of my homepage if you want to check it out) as well as update the blog more with some very overdue (still) book reviews! Hope you guys are well and doing tons of reading! Until next time, guys!
