Hey all! So, I meant to post this earlier last week, but as usual, my week got away from me. It looks like this week is going to be plenty busy too, but don’t worry. I still have a post or two planned. Let’s start with a little Book Club update! If you’re reading or still with me, here’s what I have planned for July.
I’m doing something a little different for our July reading selection(s). Since it’s America’s Independence Day soon, I really wanted to read My Dear Hamilton, but since we’ve already done two historical fiction novels back-to-back, I wanted to change it up and not subject you guys to one genre.
So… For July, my official pick is going to be The Breakdown by B. A. Paris. She writes fantastic thrillers, and you’ve read her debut novel, Behind Closed Doors, you know what I’m talking about.
For good measure, I’m throwing in My Dear Hamilton as well because I’m probably going to be reading it in July. I read America’s First Daughter by this author duo last year and it was just… So so good and I’ve been so pumped to read this one. Anyway, that’s a mouthful, but I’ve been slacking on posting in the group and I want that to change. This month, feel free to choose one book or read both with me. Either way, I’m excited!
I’ll leave some summaries and order links below and I hope to read along with you starting in a few days!
The Breakdown:
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside—the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she’d stopped.
But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn’t have a baby.
The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.
Or the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…

My Dear Hamilton:
From the New York Times bestselling authors of America’s First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton—a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Haunting, moving, and beautifully written, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza’s story as it’s never been told before—not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal—but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.
A general’s daughter…
Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington’s penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she’s captivated by the young officer’s charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton’s bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.
A founding father’s wife…
But the union they create—in their marriage and the new nation—is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it all—including the political treachery of America’s first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.
The last surviving light of the Revolution…
When a duel destroys Eliza’s hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband’s enemies to preserve Alexander’s legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she’s left with one last battle—to understand the flawed man she married and imperfect union he could never have created without her…
