Hey there, bookworms and happy Sunday! In my neck of the woods, it’s a chilly and dreary rainy day, and frankly, all I want to do is take a nap, but not only am I super behind on blog posts as usual, but I also have a mini pile of reading that’s stacking up. To be honest, I’ve been in a bit of a funk with not only my reading but all of my writing, and it’s all seemed like such a chore. That’s just how life unfolds sometimes, right?
Anyway, I want to keep this list of delayed posts from getting any longer if I can help it, so here we go with my latest book review. Today, I’m talking about 3 Hour Dad by Adam T. Hourlution.
While this may be my latest review, it’s not surprising that I read this book a handful of weeks ago. Adam was kind enough to contact me and send a copy of this short but true story my way, and I read it in the span of a couple hours.
3 Hour Dad is the story of Adam, his girlfriend, and their surprise baby. That’s right. The title speaks for itself.
Adam is just having a typical day, seemingly going through the motions, when he receives a call from his girlfriend’s mother asking him to meet her and his lady at the hospital. Amidst some aches and pains, they’re admitted for what they think is a case of appendicitis, and in a crazy twist, find out they’re moments away from expecting their first child.
This was a fun and quick account of going through the motions when your life is flipped on its head. I had to give Adam props for pulling himself together and trying to wrap his head around such a monumental concept so readily. For a guy who wasn’t keen on kids and had his life mapped out in a routine, he did really well.
I think I would’ve loved this story more if it was just slightly longer with a little more elaboration. The fact that it was such a quick read meant that the text jumped a bit. For me to get really into and obsessed with a tale of any sort, I like to really paint a picture, and when stories are too short or too quick, I kind of prefer to hear the person tell me verbally rather than read it on a page, if that makes sense.
Overall, I enjoyed the time I spent with Adam and his girlfriend as they had to process and slide into their new roles as unexpected parents. Their shocking news could’ve gone such a different way, so it was nice that they accepted the challenge as a team and met their new life’s calling head on.
If you’re looking for a short, humorous, and hectic adventure that’ll give you one of the most precious gifts, go check out this story!
My Final Rating: three out of five stars
