Hidden Seams

Hey there, bookworms! Happy Tuesday! While I wish it were later in the week (who doesn’t?), I’m baffled at how quickly the days are flying by. I don’t know about you, but I feel like there are a lot of new releases coming this month along with fun and exciting book news in the community in general. I’m doing my best to stay on top of as much as I can for you!

Anyway, as I’m working on a couple of things myself with this site in the coming weeks/months, I thought I’d bring you all a book review! A few weeks ago, I had some down time between review requests and thought I’d grab something out of my personal library to read. Since this book had been sitting on my shelves since its release date back in January, I couldn’t hold out any longer and had to dive into the latest from one of my favorite authors. Let’s talk about Hidden Seams by Alessandra Torre!

It’s the end of an era. Fashion Mogul Vince Horace is dead, and his 800-million dollar (plus) empire is up for grabs. No one in the industry questions the fact that it should go to Marco Lent, Vince’s dedicated, long-time lover and partner, except for maybe Marco himself.

For a decade, Marco has harbored a secret. One that could shatter the Horace name, and every ounce of financial gain set to come his way. He spent too much time and effort building his name and reputation, and now, even though he was alone, he refused to give in and tell the truth. He insisted that he continue living the life to which he had become accustomed.

However, his plan takes a huge nosedive when he quite literally runs into Avery McKenna.

Avery is a girl on her own who tries to live under the radar out in the Midwest. Far far away from the fashion empire that Vince and Marco have built in New York. McKenna is more focused on helping women emigrating to America and laundering money to keep her properties and the lives she’s saving afloat. Once her and Marco cross paths in an unexpected turn, things heat up.

These two don’t know who one another is, or why they’ve come into each others lives so suddenly, but at the same time, there’s an inkling. They’re chemistry is absolute and off the charts, but they both tend to sleep with one eye open. While one searches for a long lost father, and the other has to cope with handling a fake-gay relationship for the sake of his deceased mentor’s reputation, it’s easy to say that this book has a lot going on.

I’m a tried-and-true Torre reader. She has not published a book that I haven’t picked up and didn’t love, however, this one was not quite my favorite. It was NOT a bad book. Her writing is always on point, and I always love the mis of wit, thrill, and sensuality mixed into her texts. I gave this book its four stars for the amount of sizzle the two main characters produced. Marco and Avery butted heads and then took their dislike for one another to the bedroom to have it out.. or any other place they could find when the moment struck.

While I loved their chemistry, and Torre’s ability to write yet another sexy page-turner, I almost felt like Marco and Avery’s relationship went a little too quickly, and they moved from love to hate within the span of a weekend (or so it seemed). Even though I’ve seen this done in romance novels many a time, there was just something about their venomous spatting turning into a 180 allegiance and true love in the period of a couple of days that I couldn’t connect with this go round.

Even though I felt slightly separated from the fast-track these two were on, I couldn’t deny that the overall story and world Torre created was pure entertainment. From the lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous, a journey to find out who you are and where you come from, to the wounded and imperfect main characters who get a second chance at a happily ever after, I was not disappointed by time I hit the last page!

If you want a book that keeps you on your toes, but also causes you to fan yourself on occasion, then you should read this book!

My Final Rating: four out of five stars
