Good evening, all. Today is my Friday, and my last book review for a little bit, because I’m going on an adventure overseas tomorrow. It should be tons of fun, but right now, I’m very busy and a bit stressed with last minute tasks, but I did want to take a moment and get my latest review to you guys before I take off. I recently finished A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. My aunt suggested this one to me, so I downloaded the audible version and enjoyed my newest journey on my office commutes.
This was a sweet read. If you like a classic like A Christmas Carol and all of Scrooge’s antics, then you’ll want to meet Ove. A man who knows how to step it up in terms of cranky, old man.
I enjoyed the fact that even though his neighbors seemed to bring out his heart, he didn’t change much in his practicality. He still remained the same grumpy gus down to his core. It’s good that he stood by his routine and his beliefs, but as a character, he wound up driving me a bit crazy. I wanted to yell at him to stop taking things so seriously or being so rigid all the time. I just wanted him to enjoy himself. I understand that he went through a bit of tragedy, but it molded him into even more of a stick in the mud than he was as a youngster.
Getting a glimpse into his past was interesting and heartbreaking. While he remained the man he was even at a young age, he also evolved himself into the crank I met in this story.
If you enjoy a story about life’s journey with some comedy, tragedy, and heart, go meet Ove! If he’s not your cup of tea, you’re bound to learn something from one of his quirky friends and neighbors for sure.
I’ll be sure to get back to posting as soon as I’m home! In the mean time, enjoy plenty of books for me and happy reading!
My Final Rating: three out of five stars
