Hello, bookworms! It’s almost Friday and I don’t know about you, but it can’t come soon enough!
As promised, I’m bringing you post two of the week. I’m going to try really hard to regularly update on Tuesdays and Thursdays for you guys. Tuesdays will usually consist of the latest book reviews while Thursdays will kick off a literary topic, but something more adventurous than a current read. Send me your suggestions and I will, for sure, talk about it in this space with you!
While I couldn’t quite decide what to discuss in today’s post, just because I’ve had a few ideas floating around, eventually I got it narrowed down to something pretty exciting. If you’re a fan of chick flicks, but even more, a tried-and-true to romance novels, you’re going to want to pay attention. Today, I’m talking about Passionflix!
Passionflix is a website that has recently launched and is specifically designed to produce and show all of your favorite romance novels come to life. This is what all of us bookish fangirls have been seemingly waiting ages to experience. Yes, of course, books-to-movies adaptations have been around for ages, but aside from the Blockbuster that was Fifty Shades or getting Outlander to the small screen, we readers of epic love stories have been a bit in the dark when it comes to the movies we really want to see. Enter Passionflix to save the day!
For just $5.99 a month, you can “get your passion on” as they say. Members are offered unlimited access to their movies and series, receive exclusive content based on best selling romance novels, and can cancel at any time. Also, to make it even more convenient, there’s an app available so that you may watch on any device you want! Think Hulu or Netflix… but simply chock full of all the book boyfriends you could possibly ask for!
You might think that this concept can’t get any better, but it does. If you head over to Facebook and like the Passionflix page here, you get an input as to what books you want to see brought to life. The brains behind this idea make it super convenient for us readers to reach out and pitch a story concept onto their radar. This is stellar that they let the readers actively participate and give the website and streaming service a sense of true community.
While the site is up and running with some of your favorite romances and guilty pleasures already, the Passionflix originals haven’t hit the site just yet. Those will begin to debut later this month, and we’re kicking things off with Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre! I’m practically chomping at the bit for that one. Torre is a personal favorite of mine, and I can’t seem to get enough of her books. Dirt is no exception. You can read my review of the book here and definitely give it a read before the movie premieres in a couple of weeks! Here’s a brief synopsis via goodreads to get you amped up for the movie debut:
Cole Masten. Abandoned by his superstar wife, Hollywood’s Perfect Husband is now Hollywood’s Sexiest Bachelor: partying hard and screwing even harder. Watch out Los Angeles, there’s a new bad boy in town.
Summer Jenkins. That’s me, a small town girl stuck in Quincy, Georgia. I cook some mean chicken and dumplins, can bluff a grown man out of his savings in poker, and was voted Most Friendly my senior year.
We were from different worlds. Our lives shouldn’t have collided. But then Cole Masten read a book about my small town. And six months later, his jet landed on our dusty airstrip, and he brought Hollywood with him.
From the start, I knew he was trouble. For our town. And for me.
Sometimes, opposites just aren’t meant to attract.
Excited yet? Want a trailer? Of course you do! I don’t know about you, but I can’t stop watching it, myself!
As I said earlier, this is really a thrilling time for romance novels and its dedicated readers. In this day and age, surprisingly enough, there’s still a taboo element connected to reading a contemporary love story. Personally, I’m not sure why. I’ve often gotten comments like, “you read porn”, or “why would you read that trash when there’s good books out there”, etc. It’s extremely frustrating to hear these things as a reader for several reasons. One, because I believe everyone loves the genres they love for a reason, and as long as we’re reading, there should be zero judgment. Two, because people love romance movies and love stories. Us readers just happen to be reading the words on the page before the actors bring the characters we love to life. One is not more crude than the other. Lastly, there’s the fact that romance novels teach us just as much as other books can. Sure, there may be a cheesy or steamy plot line going on, but we still learn about human interaction, the dedication and commitment or lovers, heartbreak, determination in the human spirit, and so much more.
For those reasons above, I could not be more thrilled that Passionflix is a thing, and it’s happening. I was beyond ecstatic when I found out that it was a real concept and signed up to become a Founding Member. I’d love to contribute to that world in any way I can. Hell, if the creators ever find themselves on a hiring spree one day, this English Major who is obsessed with her romance novels is ready to be a willing and eager employee! Sign me up!
What are you waiting for? Head on over to Passionflix, or download the app on any iTunes or Google Play store now and get ready to meet your next book boyfriend!
