Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1)

Good morning, bookworms! Well, another Monday is upon us, but at least we can start out the week with a book review. That’s a good thing, right? For those of you who have been following this blog for a bit know how I like to group series reviews together. Unless the series is incomplete, and I have to read and post each review as the books are released, I’m always posting series reviews together once I’m done. Today, and with the series I’m currently reading, that’s going to change. If I wait and post everything in bulk, you won’t hear from me for awhile since there’s 14+ books in my current read series. I don’t want to leave you guys hanging, so let’s get to talking about book one of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. This first installment is entitled Dark Lover, which to me, was extremely appropriate after having met Wrath for myself.

This was an interesting read. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into when I bought this series on Amazon. I just knew some of my book friends had raved about and posted these books all over social media so I had to check them out. Curiosity gets the best of me most of the times, and I just have to be nosey and see what’s going on in a world I’m missing out on. The BDB does involve a world of vampires which I’m not completely into and on board with (let’s be real… Hollywood sure beat that idea to death), but I enjoyed the story none-the-less since there were other dynamics coming into play.

What I loved was that there was more to this world than just vampires. It dealt with crime, mystery, romance, and how to attempt to co-exist among the races.

Of course I adored Wrath and Beth’s story at the core of it all. It was interesting to learn about half-breeds and how their transition between the human to vampire world winds up straddling a delicate line that they have to learn to balance properly. Luckily, Beth had a good mentor and a fierce protector in Wrath. It’s when outside forces, and other lessers are lurking in the shadows that the vampire king and everyone he holds dear are in jeopardy.

Like I said, this was the first book of many, so I’m anxious to see where the Black Dagger Brotherhood journey takes me from here on out. I’m really anxious to see how their world evolves now that I’ve gotten my feet wet in their world.

My Final Rating: four out of five stars
