The Protector

Hey there, bibliophiles! Happy almost-middle-of-the-week! Hopefully, I have more reviews coming to you soon because I’ve been getting book mail like crazy. Now, I just have to get the time to read the way I want to. Anyway, I’m all but squirming in my seat to bring you my latest because I got this book on Friday and I’m STILL in fangirl mode. Let me tell you about The Protector, the latest from Jodi Ellen Malpas.

I’m thoroughly convinced that JEM is not capable of writing a bad or just “eh” book. Thank goodness for that! This is the seventh novel of hers I’ve read, and the first stand alone, and I was anything but disappointed. Since this book isn’t hitting the shelves until September, I’ve decided not to say too much. I know I can hide spoilers for those of you who like to be surprised, but I’d rather just generally review and let you get to it once you have your copies. I know many of you are chomping at the bit for this one, and I promise, you’ll love it!

I was over the moon when I came home from the office the other day to have this ARC sitting in my mailbox. I had signed up for blitz-type things, but having a tangible copy in my possession was the best surprise since they’re not always promised when you offer to review. I was completely honored to have gotten a copy. After fan-girling for a bit (who am I kidding, I’m still freaking out a little), I dove in and met the one and only Jake Sharp. If you’re a sucker for a solid alpha, Jake is your man. Jodi is one of the queens when it comes to writing a dominant man!

He is the best bodyguard in London, and he’ll go above and beyond to keep his eyes on his clients, but emotionally, he’s completely cut off from any form of compassion or attachment. He’s haunted by the nightmares of his past, and decisions he made that changed his life forever. Steady work is the only thing that keeps him breathing from day-to-day, and that’s all it is; work.

When he’s assigned to look after model and up-and-coming business mogul, Camille Logan, his exterior begins to fissure and crack to bits. She’s the daughter of a very wealthy businessman, and she has a very real threat on her head. Jake doesn’t want to work for her, and she has zero desire for protection, but due to circumstances out of their grasp, they find they’re stuck with each other for the foreseeable future. He does everything to stick to business while she does everything to drive him away so she can go back to her routine. It’s when their plans lead them more to intrigue and attraction rather than disgust, that it all backfires on them, and leads them somewhere new.

There’s so much going on in this story that I almost didn’t know what to do with myself. There are powerful emotions, anger, despair, love and the unknown, crime, corruption, scandal, and fear of how it’ll all play out. I loved every word and every minute I spent with these characters and could not have adored this story more if I tried!

This story hits shelves on September 6th, 2016, so if you haven’t already, pre-order your copy now! The Protector
